Shooting in Tokyo

Als die Räder die Piste von Haneda gerade mal berührt hatten und nach etwa 10 Stunden „radio silence“ bekam ich diese Nachricht per Facebook Messenger: „Hi! About TFP modeling. I will be glad for cooperation. Now living in Yokohama, but can come to Tokyo for shooting;)“
Ich konnte es kaum glauben, mein etwas abwegiger Wunsch…

ging nun doch noch in Erfüllung. In Vorbereitung einer Japanreisehatte ich vor etwa 5 Wochen folgende Anfrage in der Facebook Gruppe „Photographers Japan“ gestellt. Jedoch bekam ich keine Antwort. Ein müdes Like gab es immerhin. Gedanklich hatte ich das Vorhaben schon abgeschlossen und mich auf Architektur- und Streetfotografie eingestellt. Schliesslich ist es für Anfänger hierzulande schon nicht einfach an TFP Shootings zu gelangen.  Wieso sollte das in der Fremde mit engem Zeitplan besser laufen? Die positive Antwort kam von Daria, die mir zuvor schon das Like spendiert hatte.

Obwohl die Metropole Tokio-Yokohama die größte der Welt ist, etwa 38 Millionen Menschen leben dort, war eine Shooting Location schnell gefunden. Ginza ist DIE Shoppingmeile von Tokio. Hier gibt es die Flagship-Stores aller Modemarken auf wenigen 100 Metern und besonders wichtig auch einen Apple Store. An einem Wochenende schmeißt sich die japanische Familie in Schale und flaniert hier. Damit das ungehindert ablaufen kann sperrt die Tokioter Stadtverwaltung die Straße in dieser Zeit vollständig für den Fahrzeugverkehr. Ein paar Sonnenschirme, Tische und Stuhle werden dazu gestellt und laden zum Verweilen ein. Die Leica M hatte ich zuhause gelassen. Mit People war ja im Vorfeld der Reise nicht zurechnen. Deshalb hatte ich die Sony A7R2 mit dem 55mm und einem 24mm Samyang Tilt-Shift Objektiv mit. Ich stellte mir vor, dass ich diese eher für Architektur Fotos gedachte Linse für ein spezielles Foto von Daria hernehmen könnte. Sie mitten im Ginza-typischen Getümmel, scharf und links und rechts verschwinden alle anderen in der Unschärfe, die durch die Tiltfunktion hervorgerufen wird. Also eine kleine Prise Extrabokeh.

Doch vorher musste ich Daria in diesem Gewusel erst einmal finden. Ehrlich gesprochen kann ich mir kaum noch vorstellen, wie so etwas ohne Smartphone und entsprechende Apps funktionieren kann. Kurz der Live-Standort geteilt und los gehts.

Sie wartete bei Starbucks in einem roten Erkennungs-Kleid auf mich. Ein schneller obligatorischer Kaffee diente zum kennen lernen. Daria kommt aus St. Petersburg und ist dort erstaunlicherweise nicht als Model, sondern als Fotografin tätig. Sie kannte also beide Seiten der Medaille (Kamera).

Genug der Worte jetzt sollen Bilder folgen. Ich sage Domo Arigato Gozaimasu, Daria.

I could hardly believe it, that my somewhat unlikely wish is going to be fulfilled. In preparation for a trip to Japan, I asked about 5 weeks before the following request in the Facebook group „Photographers Japan“. Screenshot 2018-06-02 08.31.49No response. At least there was a pity like. In my mind I had already canceled the project and focused on architecture and street photography. Finally, it is not easy for beginners in this country to get TFP shootings. Why should that work better in a foreign country with a tight schedule? The positive answer came from Daria, who had previously given me the Like.

Although the metropolis of Tokyo-Yokohama is the largest in the world, about 38 million people live there,  a shooting location was easy to find. Ginza is the main shopping street of Tokyo. Here are the flagship stores of all fashion brands within a few hundred meters. And especially important an Apple Store. On a weekend, the Japanese family in fashion outfit strolls here. The Tokyo city administration blocks this road during this time completely for vehicle traffic. A few umbrellas, tables and chairs are provided and invite you to linger. I had left the Leica M at home. People photography wasn’t expected anymore in advance of the trip. That’s why I had the Sony A7R2 with the 55mm and a 24mm Samyang tilt-shift lens. I imagined that I could take this lens for a special photo of Daria. She should stay in sharpness in the middle of the Ginza-typical turmoil and left and right disappear all the others in the blur, caused by the tilt function. So a little extra bokeh.

But first I had to find Daria in this crowded streets. Honestly, I can hardly imagine how this works without a smartphone and apps. Just share the live location and off you go.

She was waiting for me at Starbucks wearing a red dress. We took quick obligatory coffee to get to know each other. Daria is from St. Petersburg and is amazingly not working as a model but as a photographer. So she knew both sides of the coin (camera).
