Fool‘s Paradise

Thomas, the drummer of Floyd Vegas is additional playing in a second band. They are from Tønder, Denmark. Their mix of Pink Floyd, Supertramp, etc. sounds refreshingly handmade and evokes memories of gone times. After the photo shoot of Floyd Vegas came the desire to make some atmospheric photos from the upcoming gig as well.

I had something special in mind for that. The camera selection fell on the Sony A7R2, because it was not to be expected to have much light there. ISO values of 12800 are not an theoretical option, no the image results are acceptable as well. At the same time, I wanted to have a it of the Leica M look in the pictures. That’s why I want to use a Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f / 1.2 for the M-bayonet at the concert. Due to the wide aperture of this lens, a beautiful bokeh with many colorful blurry spots of color should be realized.

Also, I brought for the certain „#ExtraBokeh“ my Olympus PEN-F with the self-built lens. With this lens the focal plane can be adjusted randomly through the space. So I was able to pick the singer Detelf before the gig in the middle of the pub and leave the rest of the guests in the blur. Do you also think that you can see the tension before the gig?

The place of the event was a biker pub in Stelle, the „Klimperkasten“. A real rock hell with real motorcycles hanging on the wall.

Compared to BarRock from Hamburg’s City Nord, I could get much closer to the band here. That was very beneficial. So I could capture a few unusual perspectives.

And then it started. Marking guitar sounds, with an atmospheric keyboard propagating through the Klimperkiste. Accompanied by Björn on bass and Thomas with a crisp drum kit.

Drummers are always a bit difficult to capture for the photographers, sitting behind their drum castles. Fortunately, I was able to persuade Thomas to make a portrait during the break.

Thomas, drums are his passion

Also from Detlef I could do one.
